Mining Conveyor Applications
In mining operations, conveyor systems are mainly used to handle ore, coal, crushed rock, and tailings, often with high density and irregular particle sizes.
The real challenges are not abstract “harsh conditions,” but very specific situations:
- Large rocks dropping from height onto the belt, causing localized impact damage
- Sharp-edged ore continuously scraping the belt surface, leading to accelerated wear
- Wet or clay-rich material sticking to the belt, resulting in carryback
- Fine particles and dust escaping at transfer points, creating material spillage and buildup
Suitable Components for Mining
Conveyor Idlers
Support the belt under heavy ore loads, especially when material piles unevenly. In dusty mining environments, poor sealing can lead to idler seizure and belt misalignment.
- Use impact idlers or closer spacing at loading zones
- In high dust areas, sealed idlers are strongly recommended
Conveyor Pulleys
Drive the belt under continuous heavy load, especially in long conveying systems. When handling dense ore, insufficient pulley strength can lead to slipping or unstable tension.
- Required for all systems
- Heavy-duty design is critical for long-distance conveying
Pulley Lagging
Improves grip between belt and pulley when handling wet ore or muddy material.Without lagging, water and fines can cause belt slippage and reduced efficiency.
- Strongly recommended for wet or outdoor mining
- Can be optional in dry, stable conditions
Impact Bed
Installed at loading points where large rocks fall onto the belt.Reduces direct impact and helps prevent belt damage or tearing.
- Necessary for large lump material or high drop height
- Can be replaced by impact idlers in lighter conditions
Skirting Board
Controls material flow at loading zones where ore scatters or dust escapes.Prevents side spillage and reduces buildup along the conveyor structure.
- Recommended for all transfer points
- Essential when handling fine or dusty material
Belt Cleaners
Remove residual material from the belt, especially when handling wet or sticky ore.Without cleaning, carryback leads to idler blockage and material accumulation.
- Multi-stage cleaning for wet or clay-rich material
- Single cleaner may be enough for dry material

Selection Notes
- Wet material → focus on lagging and cleaners
- Long distance → stronger pulleys required
- Large rocks → impact bed becomes necessary
- High dust → sealed idlers and proper skirting
